WANG TO SELL NEW LINE AT KOHL'S

Designer Vera Wang, known for bridal gowns that cost thousands of dollars, has reached an agreement to sell a line of less expensive sportswear in Kohl's, the middle market department store chain, The Post has learned.

Details of the agreement were being finalized last night, and an announcement could come as soon as today, sources said.

A key player in the deal was Haim Dabah, chairman and chief executive officer of Regatta Pacific Alliance, an apparel manufacturer whose brands include Daisy Fuentes, which is sold at Kohl's and nicole by Nicole Miller, a lower-priced version of the designer's clothing that is sold at J.C. Penney. Regatta Pacific, which was advised on the deal by Financo, would source and manufacturer the Vera Wang line for Kohl's.

The agreement with Kohl's ends months of speculation over Vera Wang's next move. The designer had briefly entertained the idea of becoming the creative director of St. John Knits, the West Coast fashion house known for its sturdy knit suits that is in search of rejuvenation. Wang also held discussions this winter with Liz Claiborne, the giant apparel manufacturer that was interested in buying her company.

Ultimately, though, the opportunity with Kohl's offered Wang the greatest exposure, as well as a sizeable financial reward that could total as much as $100 million over a multi-year contract, without requiring her to give up control.

Representatives for Dabah, Kohl's and Wang were not immediately available.
